London: A celebration of birthdays
It was happy birthday America and Laura that brought me to London this time around. Laura invited me to her birthday party and given my unemployment and a cheap Eurostar ticket, I decided there was no reason not to go.
Laura lives in Wapping (pronounced Whopping).
I arrived Thursday evening (thus the cheap Eurostar) so I had all Friday to be a tourist. Upon Laura's suggestion, I visited the Geffrye Museum, which presents a history of British living rooms. I understand that this sounds really lame. However it was, one, free, and two, surprisingly interesting. Plus the grounds are really pretty.
And upon someone else's suggestion, I headed over to the Tate Modern to see an exhibition on voyeurism that was really interesting. I was also very proud of myself for making from one museum to the other without much incident.
Hey Millennium Bridge and St. Pauls!
Look kids, the Tower Bridge!
Another motivating factor for going to London is Chipotle. Americans might not consider this to be a big deal, but Americans in Europe will understand. Mexican food doesn't really exist in Europe. Ketchup is not salsa. Gouda doesn't belong in a taco. And while I consider Baja Fresh to be the superior Mexican fast food place, I was really excited to enjoy Chipotle in London. Please note the man waving in the window.
Who knew a thing of aluminum foil would look so tasty. I was also getting a lot of looks for taking so many pictures of my food. Haters to the left.
This shot brings a bit of a tear to my eye
Then Saturday was the happy birthday Laura and America party. Laura and I look rather fetching during our intense conversation about frosting.
